Brewing: Fill bottom chamber with water to safety valve level. Insert filter basket and fill with finely ground coffee, leveling without packing. Screw top and bottom chambers together tightly. Place on medium heat. Coffee will begin percolating into upper chamber. When you hear gurgling sound, remove from heat. Serve immediately.
Coffee Grind: Use fine to medium-fine grind, similar to espresso but slightly coarser. Too fine causes over-extraction and bitterness.
Heat Level: Use medium heat. High heat can cause bitter coffee and damage the pot.
After Each Use: Allow pot to cool completely. Disassemble all parts. Rinse with warm water. Avoid soap as it can leave residue affecting coffee taste. Dry all components thoroughly.
Deep Cleaning: Periodically clean with baking soda and water to remove coffee oil buildup. Rinse thoroughly. Never put in dishwasher as it can damage the finish and gasket.
Gasket Maintenance: Replace rubber gasket annually or when it becomes hard or cracked to maintain proper seal and brewing pressure.
Storage: Store disassembled with parts separated to allow air circulation and prevent odors.
The 9-cup rating refers to Italian espresso cup size, approximately 2 oz each. This 360ml pot makes about 12 oz total, equivalent to 3-4 standard American coffee cups or 6-9 small espresso servings.
Stainless steel moka pots work on induction cooktops if the base is magnetic. Test with a magnet - if it sticks to the bottom, it will work on induction. Otherwise, use an induction adapter disk.
The glass top allows you to watch the brewing process and see when coffee begins flowing into the upper chamber, helping you time removal from heat perfectly without lifting the lid and losing pressure.
Use fine to medium-fine ground coffee, similar to espresso grind. Regular drip coffee grind is too coarse and will produce weak coffee. Any coffee bean can be used if ground to proper fineness.
Brewing takes approximately 5-8 minutes on medium heat, depending on your stovetop. You'll hear a gurgling, hissing sound when brewing is complete and all water has passed through the coffee.
Soap can leave residue that affects coffee taste. The coffee oils that build up inside actually season the pot and enhance flavor over time, similar to cast iron. Simple water rinsing is sufficient for daily cleaning.
Moka pot coffee is similar to espresso but not identical. It's more concentrated than drip coffee but uses lower pressure than true espresso machines. The result is rich, strong coffee perfect for drinking straight or as a base for milk drinks.
The glass lid is made from heat-resistant glass designed for stovetop use. With proper care and avoiding thermal shock, it's very durable. Always use medium heat and avoid sudden temperature changes.
