Allow the spark screen to cool completely before handling or storing. Remove ash and debris from the mesh after each use by gently tapping or brushing with a soft brush. Wipe down metal components with a damp cloth to remove soot and residue. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the mesh or finish. Inspect the mesh periodically for holes or damage and replace if compromised. Keep away from direct sunlight when storing wood handle components to prevent fading and drying. Store in a dry location or use a protective cover to prevent rust on metal components. Apply high-temperature paint to any areas where the finish has worn to prevent rust development.
This 40-inch spark screen is designed to fit fire pits with diameters up to 40 inches. Measure the outer diameter of your fire pit at its widest point to ensure proper fit. The dome shape allows it to rest securely on the rim of most round fire pits, fire rings, and fire bowls within this size range.
Use the integrated handles to lift the spark screen. While the handles are designed to stay cooler than the mesh, we recommend wearing heat-resistant gloves when removing the screen from an active fire. Lift straight up and set aside on a non-combustible surface. The included poker allows you to tend the fire without removing the screen in most cases.
The fine mesh design traps sparks and embers while allowing approximately 85-90% of the fire's heat and light to radiate through. You'll still feel the warmth and enjoy the ambiance of the fire, but with significantly reduced risk of flying embers igniting surrounding materials or causing burns.
This spark screen is designed for safety and ember containment, not cooking. The mesh is not food-grade and may have coatings that are unsafe for food contact. For cooking over your fire pit, remove the spark screen and use a dedicated cooking grate or campfire cooking equipment designed for food preparation.
Fire safety regulations vary by location. Many municipalities, campgrounds, and RV parks require spark screens or arrestors on all wood-burning fires, especially during dry seasons or in high fire-risk areas. Check with your local fire department, campground regulations, or homeowners association to determine if spark screens are required in your area.
After the screen has completely cooled, tap it gently to dislodge loose ash and debris. Use a soft-bristle brush to sweep away remaining soot from the mesh. For stubborn buildup, spray with water and scrub gently with a brush, then dry thoroughly before storing. Avoid pressure washing or aggressive scrubbing that could damage the mesh or weaken the reinforced edges.
The included fire poker allows you to rearrange logs, push burning wood toward the center, add new logs, and manage your fire without removing the spark screen. This maintains continuous spark protection while giving you control over your fire. The poker can also be used to lift the screen by hooking under the handle if you prefer not to use your hands.
While the screen can withstand outdoor exposure, leaving it on your fire pit year-round will accelerate rust and deterioration. We recommend removing and storing the screen in a dry location when not in use, or covering both the fire pit and screen with a weatherproof cover. This will significantly extend the screen's lifespan and maintain its appearance.
